First, a reminder that you should have your rough draft of the semester project finished by now-- in class I asked students to write a paragraph that explains what they have completed, what is left to do, and EXACTLY when it will be finished. If you were absent, please write about your progress on the project and bring it to me on Monday.
Macbeth Stuff:
We got throughout he third scene in Act I today-- learned something about the power/non-power of witches and heard them give some old news and some pretty prodigious prophecies to both Macbeth and Banquo, our war heroes. Class members split up into groups of five in order to
1- choose a setting/time period for the staging/performance of this scene
2- split up the parts
3- begin to practice and memorize the lines
4- prepare for an amazing performance at the end of next week
Performance: Act I, scene 3 of Macbeth. Many students were interested in creating a video of their performance like the example that we watched on youtube, but that is not required. We will perform on Friday of next week-- May 9th, and classroom performance is the goal. If your group does create a video, you can show it then.
Grading: I will grade the performances for correct usage of Shakespeare's language, understanding and communication of the meaning of the words, and yes, CREATIVITY! Have fun with this-- witches dancing onstage and grown men changing from loyal warriors to stunned silence and possible plotters of royal murders is fun stuff! I will give time in class for your groups to meet and rehearse.
